Son of the mob by Gordan korman is how the head of the mob’s son is trying to get out of the mob business and how when he tries having a love life him fathers business gets in the way and ruins it for him. At the beginning of the book they were at the beach and his girlfriend wanted a blanket so he went to get one and there was an unconscious body wrapped up in the blanket and his girlfriend saw it and won’t ever talk to him again. The main character doesn’t like the family business but he tries his best to be away from it all and not get farther in it.

The setting is in New York near a city with a beach during modern times. The setting effects on the character are the same as it is on us, modern teenagers. Vince though has a bit different life style only because of the sheer fact that his dad is head of the mob. Since he wants no part of this he is always avoiding his dads business and trying to be as clean as possible when your dad is head of the mob. If I was put in this situation I would not try to avoid the business. I think that being in the business would be a unique experience that very few people ever get to be a part of.

The social setting affects all of Vince’s choices, his father is a mob boss but no agency has been able to prove it therefore his house is under the watch of the FBI cameras and all. Vince wants no part in his father’s business and tries his hardest to keep it a secret. But when Vince falls for a girl at school he has no idea what he’s getting into, Kendra Bightly is the daughter of the FBI agent that is trying to send his father to jail. Vince takes every precaution to keep this from her, he avoids her parents, gets an untraceable cell phone, and even vouches for some people that owe his dad money so that they will leave him alone.

The setting affects the character’s thoughts, actions, and choices because it’s a modern type of setting where a normal teenager can grow up and get raised, but since his dad works in the mob, and is the head, Vince can’t grow up as normally as he wants. His dad’s work affects him by making him want to go in a different direction and work on his own for the things he wants. His dad wants him to join in, but Vince wants to go his own way and does everything possible to achieve that. Everything his dad does affect everything he does, from school to his love life and he absolutely no part in that. My reaction to having to adapt in this environment would be the same as Vince’s because I would want to be my own person and not go into a business just because my dad’s successful in it, I want to make a name for myself.

The setting of this story is in New York in modern times. Vince is a normal teenager with an abnormal father. His father is in the Mob. All Vince wants to do is lead a normal childhood but his father’s connections and actions prevent him from doing that. His dad wants Vince to join him in the mob and be a part of the “family business” but Vince wants nothing to do with it. Vince also has trouble keeping friends and having a love life because of his dad’s job. If I had to adapt to this environment I would just try my best to try and have nothing to do with my dad’s business because if they get caught there will be rough consequences. I also just would pursue what I want and not just get pressured into a career in the Mob. Overall this would be a tough place to be in.

The Son of the Mob takes place in a teenager’s life, like at school parties, and other places most teens go to. The main character Vince is the son of a successful mobster who is very serious about his work. Vince doesn’t want anything to do with his father’s business and wants to live a legal life. With his dad being a mobster Vince’s whole house is bugged by the FBI. Vince wants to talk to this girl whose father is in the FBI, and to make things worse her father is the FBI agent who is trying to take down Vince father.

Son of the Mob is about a teenager named Vince who is having trouble getting a girlfriend and keeping her. Vince lives in New York City with his family, but his family is out of the ordinary. Vince’s dad is the “Don” or boss of the Luca Mob. With the FBI having his house bugged 24/7, Vince tries not to get into the “Family Business”. On top of that, Vince falls in love with a girl named Kendra. Only thing that is wrong with Kendra is that her father is the FBI Agent that is watching the Luca house. Vince tries to keep Kendra from finding out about his family and trying to not run into her FBI Agent of a father.

The setting affects the story because it creates many obstacles the main character has to get through to have his love. The main character of the story is a son of a mobster and his girlfriend’s father is the FBI agent tracking his father down. This conflict between the two fathers affects the setting because it makes the main characters love life with his girlfriend very complicated. The mob business often gets into the main characters life, but he does not want to do anything with it. He hates that his father is a mobster because it affects almost every aspects of his life.

The setting affects the story because it makes many obstacles for the main character to face. With his father being the top mobster of New York, and his “love” being a child of and FBI investigator, It makes it difficult to breathe sometimes. The setting is between the two fathers because they battle each other out while the kids have to take the fall for them. Making it difficult for a love life to occur.
If I were in this situation I couldn’t handle the stress, and would probably call the cops, because I could live a better life without my dad ruining other people’s life’s. Even though it would be a tough decision, a decision still has to be made

Son of the Mob is a story about a teenager who named Vince. Vince isn’t like any ordinary teenager because his father is a leader in a mob. Vince struggles in his life due to his father’s mob business interfering in his personal life. Vince also has problems in his love life when his girlfriend’s father is an FBI agent after Vince’s father. As a result; Vince has to keep his love life a secret from his father, and his family life a secret from his girlfriend. If I was in this situation I would join the mob. The reason why is because they literally get whatever they want, they get lots of money, and don’t have to follow any laws.

One of the funniest settings in this book is when Vince older brother got a hooker for him. Because he wanted him to get laid for he can lose his V-card. Then Vince punk out because he didn’t lose his V-card to some random girl. So he left, this same thing almost happen at a party. The girl was drunk and I wasn’t ready this type of thing.

The setting of the book is right now, in New Jersey? (I can't remember..) and his father is a mob boss. This setting effects Vince's thoughts, actions, and choices in a big way. He can't do anything without his last name getting him recognized and treated differently. Therefore, he makes very different choices than other teens, he never joins clubs or sports for fear of his name interfering. He thinks differently than others because he believes his whole life has been a lie, he analyzes everything more than necessary trying not to get caught up in his fathers business. If I had to adapt to Vince's environment, I would probably go crazy. I already over analyze things and if I had to worry about the things he does, it would be way too much to handle.

I disagree with Vince’s action of not being involved in the family Business. The Business is that his dad is a mob boos. Vince thinks that what his dad does is wrong because he does not believe in the life of crime. I think that he should be part of the Business because he is already feared and associated with his dads business. His behavior of trying to avoid it but helping the low life in the mob is wrong. It is wrong because this get him involved even though he is trying to be good and help them. I think that is he does not want to be part of the Business he should not be involved at all.

I agree that Vince should be apart of the family business because he has real talent and brain for that kind of thing, I mean, he's already helped out two guys, and Ray, he could do way more. I don't think it's wrong for him to be involved because it's apart of who he is and he is good at what he's doing. He's just trying to find himself.

Vince is keeping his life away from Kendra, his family mob life. Who his family is and what they do. Why he has to call her through a cell phone and why he has money is all a lie. Also, why he quit the football team is all under wrap. I disagree with keeping all this away from her, especially since they’ve been dating for a while now. He’s acting this way because he wants to strictly keep his family life and personal life separate, but the thing is, it’s his girlfriend. She told him about her dad being an FBI agent and he knows practically everything about her. I would prefer him to be open with her about it, maybe she’ll be understanding and get where he’s coming from. Maybe she’ll be more into him after because they kind of are “star-crossed lovers.”

Vince’s behavior is agreeable, given his circumstances, growing up in a mob family has caused him to think more about how he acts. Vince so far has lied to his father, mother, and brother about his girlfriend, Kendra. Kendra is the daughter of the FBI agent that is trying to send Vince’s father to prison so Vince so far has gotten a fake phone, covered 2 scumbags that owe his father money. He has so lied Kendra about having part time jobs to explain why he has money all the time and all the nice things.

You were suppose to choose what you DISAGREE with. Like the fact that Vince is keeping his relationship a secret from his father, and keeping his families life a secret from Kendra. I disagree with this since what if he messes up? His family could got to jail, and his relationship with Kendra could be over since he was lying, and his family are criminals.

In son of the mob Vince is trying to date Kendra without his parents or her parents knowing. she can’t know who his parents are because her dad is the agent that is watching his parents. Kendra tries to get him to have dinner with her parents but he has to act like it will ruin their relationship if he goes there. Their relationship might not work because of Vince’s family’s business and almost everywhere they go they would be running into one of the uncles and it’ll be a matter of time till one of the uncles says something or Kendra’s dad finds out that their going out.

I agree that the relationship might be rocking if he exposes who is father is, but he has to be honest with her or otherwise he will spend his whole life fighting who is and what he's capable of because of his dad. I think he should tell her because girls love honesty and it might add "excitement" to their relationship of the fact that women prefer the whole romantic disobedience thing.

I also agree that Vince, the son of a big named mobster, has pretty typical behavior for a teenager given his special circumstances. Vince is trying to date Kendra. Kendra’s dad just happens to be the FBI agent that wants nothing more than to put Vince’s dad in prison. Another thing I agree with is that the relationship between Vince and Kendra will not work out. There really is no possible way that Vince can hide his dads work and not get caught from Kendra’s dad. Vince even had to get a fake phone to talk to Kendra so that they can’t tap into the phone calls. Vince has already kept so much from her and I don’t think he can really keep things from her much longer. It’s going to be very interesting to see what happens between these two.

In Son of the Mob, Vince tries to date Kendra with her parents not knowing who her boyfriend is. At the same time Vince tries to keep Kendra from knowing who his dad is. Kendra tries to get Vince to eat dinner at her house with her parents but Vince says that he doesn’t want to ruin the relationship. At the same time, Vince tries to take down the homecoming posters that says to vote for Vince and Kendra. I don’t see that any of Vince’s actions are unneeded, in certain circumstances; people have to do things to protect the ones they love. But with all the lies, Vince is having a hard time.

Throughout the story Vince’s actions, values, and behavior change a lot. Vince is the son of a mobster which means, he was grown up in a family who kills for money. Vince has used dirty money his entire life and it has definitely affected his life. Vince as he got older realized that his father is a mobster and tried to do what he could to prevent himself from being a part of it. In the story Vince tried to do is best to keep out of the business but it is very hard to do when it affects almost every aspect of his life.

In the book the Son of the Mob, the main character Vince is trying to keep his relationship with Kendra a secret. Vince wants the relationship to be a secret because his dad is in the mob and Kendra’s father is in the FBI. To make things worse Alex is getting jealous, and Vince is afraid that Alex will tell Kendra what Vince’s father does for a living. Vince is nervous to take Kendra out in public because every time Vince looks up one of his uncles are around and watching him. Vince just doesn’t know what to do in his life now.

The book Son of the Mob, I disagree with the fact that Alex (main character) should keep him and Kendra a secret. Though his dad is a mobster, and Kendra’s dad is a FBI agent. This makes it a hard decision to determine what to do and what to keep secret or not. While this is going on Alex is getting jealous. Making it even more difficult to make a decision. There are tons of fish in the sea and he seems like he’s way to connected to her and putting himself into danger. He’s young and has a life to live

In the book Son of the Mob, Vince doesn't want anything to do with his father’s business which I completely disagree with. His father is a mob boss and Vince thinks it is wrong because it’s a life of crime. I believe he should go into the business because whenever people hear Vince’s name he is associated with his father. The behavior of Vince trying to stay out of the business, but still help the people struggling in the business is completely wrong. This is wrong since he is being involved in the business, and it could hurt him in some way. So if he doesn't want to be in the business; then don’t get involved in it.

The main conflict in the book “Son of the mob” is between Vince and his father but also with making sure that the FBI doesn’t catch him and Kendra together. Vince over comes this problem by making sure that the one piece of evidence he has against his family is locked away. Vince tries to keep his family life away from Kendra and telling her that he has many different jobs to explain why he has all of the money he does, he ends up telling her about it when she tricks him into meeting her dad.

I agree and disagree about the conflict because I agree that Kendra's father finding out would be horrible, but it wouldn't be the main issue. The main conflict of the book son of the mob is between Vince and Kendra and keeping away from the business. The business is that Vince’s dad is a mob boss and Kendra dad is the FBI agent watching Vince’s families every move. He always has to stay away from her parents because the last Name of the mob boss, his dad looms over him. Vince keeps away from her dad throughout the book and they keep their families a mystery to each other because if they ever were to meet it would be catastrophic. This than leads up to the next book with more family conflict.

I agree that the FBI and Mob conflict is the main problem. Vince would have a hard time keeping up with everything, especially Kendra and keeping his "life" hidden because if she ever found out, who knows how she would react. Their dad's might also react horribly, but in different ways. Kendra's dad might be more accepting than Vince's.

The main conflict in this book would have to be that Vince’s dad is in The Mob and Kendra’s dad is an FBI agent. It’s conflicting because they’re both dating each other and that’s the real plot of the book, their relationship. The plot also deals with small things about Vince’s dad’s business that make Vince and Kendra’s relationship hard. I feel for Vince because it is hard to be a teenager and keep up with everything while having a relationship on top of that, I feel like he handles it pretty well. My reaction was shocked whenever Kendra broke it off because of his involvement with The Mob, but it was also kind of expected because she knows that they’re not enemies, but their dads are. If he got involved, she surely would’ve blown because she would have to hate him, too.

In Son of the mob the main conflict is Kendra’s dad is now investigating Vince and has showed pictures of what he’s been doing to Kendra and she doesn’t want to be with him. Vince is trying to find out how they found out about what he’s been doing. This is important because Vince is really in love with Kendra but Kendra is now mad at him and he is being watched by the FBI. I think Alex was the one who tipped off Kendra’s dad because he doesn’t like her and him and Vince hasn’t hung out at all since Vince and Kendra started dating.

In Son of the Mob, the main conflict is how even when Vince tries to stay out of The Life, he still gets swept up in it and it messes up his relationships. When he was at the beach with Angela and he went to get a blanket, Jimmy Rat was unconscious wrapped up in it, when she saw she freaked and demanded to never see Vince again. When he starts dating Kendra, her father starts investigating him, and Kendra finds out. She immediately breaks up with him leaving him angry and heartbroken. I would have been just as freaked out as Kendra was if I was her and if I was Vince I definitely would've tried to hide it. Vince doesn’t want many people to know about their relationship because of her dad being an FBI agent and his dad being in the mob. Kendra and Vince get nominated for prom king and queen. Vince over reacts to them being nominated and it really upsets Kendra that he doesn’t want their relationship to be public. The most important conflict in the book is that Kendra and Vince are in love but the parents don’t approve of this. Because Kendra father work for the FBI and his trying to put Vince Father in jail, cause Vince father is a mod leader and Vince want nothing to do with. I think they shouldn’t have to stop talking to each other because of their father conflicts with each other. I dislike this because they love each other and they should be there choose not their fathers. The theme of the book is to always be honest with who you are. It’s important to the book because Vince goes on a whole trip of figuring out who he is and who he wants to be while being in his father’s light, which he doesn’t want to be in, but gets into either way. In a way, he contradicts himself and lies to cover up everything with something that’s apart of him. I find it meaningful to be honest with who you are so you can figure out your path in life and succeed in your dreams and goals. In the book, they exchange dialogue of them talking about their fathers, which Vince thought would be the most awful thing for Kendra to figure out. Kendra says, “I don’t care who your father is!” (Page 166). This symbolizes that he never had to hide because she accepts him either way. On page 253, Vince’s father says to him, “I don’t know whether to kick you out of the house of hire you.” This shows that Vince doesn’t know what he’s capable of because he won’t allow himself to be apart of his dad’s life, it’s who he is and he should stop isolating himself from that.

Kamila, while I agree with you that being honest with yourself is a theme in the book, I don't believe it's about how Vince should be part of The Life, it's how he should've just told Jimmy Rat no in the first place and never had to be in the situation he was in. Vince isn't meant to be a part of The Life anymore than a piece of fruit could be a main character of a movie.

The main theme of the book is honesty is key. This is shown by Vince’s father a mob boss. His father may be a mob boss and run illegal activity but he is always respected and feared. The reason honesty describes him is even thou he is a mob boss he is always honest to an extent. This honesty gets him the name of Honest Abe Luca as seen in page 7. He gets this name by being straight forward with his people and only the telling them the truth. The only time he is not the honest Abe is when he is talking to the FBI or Police. Page 16 talks about how the house is bugged by the FBI causing his dad to talk in a way of code. The only time they are completely honest in the house about the business is in the basement were it is checked for bug daily.

Chris I agree with you that honesty is a theme in the book. Vince's dad is always honest as much as he can be when the FBI are listening and is completely honest in that one basement room. He sometimes doesn't always tell everything he knows, everything he does tell you is true.

One of the themes of this book is without trust there cannot be a healthy relationship. Vince and Kendra’s relationship is very unhealthy he lies to her all the time about, money, people, and jobs he has. At one point they broke up in the book because Kendra figured out that he was lying to her about his life and not having any involvement in his father’s business by saying “You lied to me! You said you had nothing to do with his business!”pg 199. Even then he tried to lie to her. This theme goes the same for Vice’s relationship with his family when he was a kid he was always told his father was in the vending machine business and his mother kept telling him “He works different hours because you never know when a vending machine is going to break.” And that’s why he was never around.

I would agree with the theme that you chose. I couldnt agree more that trust is very important factor in a succesful relationship. Without trust a relationship will most likely fail. Kendra and Vince dont seem to have a lot of trust for eachother which causes problems in there relationshi[p.

In the story the main theme is you shouldn’t let other people’s decision effect your life or what you want to do. In the story Vince and Kendra are dating but Kendra’s dad is trying to put Vince’s family in jail and they are trying not to let that get in between them. Tommy was like Vince but then he got sucked into the business and not have the ability to get out because his dad got him into the business. I feel that is the theme because the book is all around life decisions and what way they take. Vince almost got sucked into it but then found out he should let his fathers decisions affect him.

I agree that that you shouldn’t let other peoples decisions effect what you want to do. Vince doesn’t want to be like his dad or his brother Tommy. He doesn’t want to be sucked in and not be able to get out of it. But in the end Vince doesn’t.

I agree that you should not let other people's decisions effect your life or what you want to do. You have your own opinion and lifestyle and people should not tell you how to live. Vince made some good life decisions but he also made some bad ones.

A theme in the book is when you make bad choices, they will affect every part of your life. This is implied by how when Vince tried to help Jimmy Rat and his friend, he lost his relationship with Kendra and his father wanted him to join The Life, permanently. If he had never trusted Jimmy, he wouldn't have gotten in all the trouble that he did. He knew helping Jimmy Rat was a bad idea, but did it anyway and had to face the consequences. I understand that Vince felt bad for him but in the end, he got more hurt than Jimmy was in the first place.

I feel that a theme that would fit this story would be “Don’t let your situation effect your life decisions”. I feel that this theme fits this story because Vince, the main character has a very difficult situation. His dad is the head of the mob. This affects his friendships and love life but it doesn’t let it stop him. When Vince finally meets Kendra, the girl he really likes, he does everything in his power to keep his personal life away from Kendra. He trying to keep everything from her supports the theme of “Don’t let your situation effect your life decisions.

A theme of the book is that you should always be honest. If you’re not honest to someone they will find out sooner or later and it usually makes it even worse. In the book Vince is not honest to Kendra about why he does not want to meet Kendra’s father or let her meet his family. Vince wants to keep it a secret from her because he thinks it will ruin their relationship, since her father is the FBI agent trying to put Vince’s dad in jail. Kendra did find out who Vince’s father was later, but instead of breaking up with him she actually liked him more.

What you said for the theme is very true. without trust you can not have a good relationship. While Vince was lying in his relationship it was not going smoothly, but once he was honest Vinces relationship with Kendra got 100% better.

One theme in Son of the Mob is to be honest. Without honesty, Vince and Kendra’s relationship is very unhealthy. Vince lies about people, jobs, and money he has to Kendra. Kendra eventually breaks up with Vince because she found out that he was lying to her on a daily bases. Vince tries to tell her the truth that he has nothing to do with his “Families Business”, but she thinks he is lying to her again. Kendra says “you lied to me! You said you had nothing to do with his business!”(pg.199). Eventually Vince tells Ray to leave since Ray is an undercover agent, but before Ray leaves for good, He tells Kendra the truth about Vince. Finally Vince and Kendra get back together and the book ends with that. I find it meaningful because without honesty, no one can have a healthy relationship with anyone.

I agree that honesty is a big theme in the book and what messed up kenda's and Vince's relationship. Vince lied to Kendra because he thought it would ruin there relationship, but it was the lying in the first place that ruined them.

In the book “The Son of The Mob” I believe that the theme in the story is if you love someone as much as you say you do, you should go out of your way to try to be real and down to earth with them. Trust is the biggest part of a successful relationship, and Kendra feels like she can’t trust Vince anymore because he lied to her about his father’s business, and when she confronted him he still lied about not being in the business of his father. Kendra Just wants to trust Vince and have a true relationship.

I totally agree with your theme because it is very true to the book and real life. Vince lied to Kendra about his family saying he was in the"vending machine" business and he got yelled at by Kendra.

in the book son of the mob. the theme in hte story is determination and love. if vince really love tihs girl. he would risk alot, but he seems to be weary about everything. he is dtermined to have a successfull relationship, and the intesity of the love dtermines how bad and what measures he will take to get her. he describes this girl as the meaing of his life, but he isnt taking risks to keep her

I believe the theme for Son of the Mob could be without trust a relationship can’t blossom. This applies to Vinces and Kendras relationship since Vince has to lie to Kendra daily because of his family’s life. Also Vince has to lie to his family, and keep Kendra a secret from his family. This is important to me because if I don’t have trust in a relationship; then there is not really a relationship at all. In the book Son of the Mob Vince had to lie, and he was afraid he could get into big trouble because he lied, so he kept it a secret and got into some trouble.
